Colorado PERA needed a user experience overhaul and a Drupal website integrated with their member portal to better serve state employees.
Colorado Public Employees' Retirement Association (PERA) is Colorado’s retirement organization that provides benefits for over 500 public and government agencies. Every state employee is a PERA member and often remain members for their entire careers.
The challenge for copera.org was to redesign the website and digital experience to cater to brand new employees, such as new grads entering the workforce, and to veterans on the verge of retirement. The organization provides the tools for state employees to manage their retirement and services to help plan, educate and serve their members on an individual basis.
Understanding Members through User Research
Given that PERA members could be 18 to 55, it was a challenge to understand what information was important to specific users and, more importantly, when. By talking to the PERA support team, we gained a better understanding of typical requests and designed short-cut features to allow members easy access to common tools while promoting PERA’s less obvious services.
Member Portal Integration
Working with PERA’s in-house development team, aspects of the website (such as calculators) tie-in with member account data. We provided high-level user experience for the design of the member portal and worked with the PERA team to build and ultimately hand off the public Drupal website to the team for continued maintenance.
Digital Communication Platform
The resulting Drupal website is a responsive tool to help PERA content administrators better communicate their messages through a news hub that integrates social media, external blogs and publications together in one place for members to access.
